An anonymous hacker group calling itself “Sirisium” has claimed possession of confidential data linked to as many as 3.75 lakh State Bank of India customers, according to information cited by cybersecurity account CyberPulse56.
The group has allegedly claimed access to data connected to more than 3,75,000 accounts and 2,722 PDF files. The material is said to include personal customer information, loan applications, supporting documents, account-opening applications, addresses and other application-related details.
The authenticity, origin and full extent of the alleged data exposure have not been independently verified.
CyberPulse56 stated that the authenticity, origin, and extent of the alleged exposure had not been verified. If the information is legitimate it could in principle be put to misuse through identity theft, financial fraud, targeted phishing and fraudulent loan applications. There is no information available to show how the data in question was obtained, when an intrusion might have taken place, or whether all of the records claimed are real. The State Bank of India had not yet replied to a request for comment at the time of publication.
The available report also contains no indication that SBI had admitted to a breach impacting 3.75 lakh customers. The incident will continue to be regarded as an allegation made by the hacker group rather than a confirmed breach of SBI data until the claims have been independently verified or the bank has dealt with them.
